When the ship docked in Cartagena, as we had toured the old Walled city two years ago, we took a tour to an aviary about 45 minutes drive away. Many of the birds were out in the open which was good for taking photographs, but some (like the harpy eagle – can’t think why she had to be behind bars!) had to be taken through wire screening. There was also a short show with various birds performing (which explains why there may be a Coca Cola sign in the background on some shots!). At the beginning of the aviary tour was an open area with macaws and (on the day we were there) a grey crowned crane which wanted to peck at possibly edible objects, like my shoes!
Back at the ship, we walked (or shuttled) back to the cruise terminal exit where they have some closed-in aviaries and an open area with dozens of beautiful macaws and other parrots, which I had photographed before, but I was glad to get the opportunity to revisit, while the ladies were looking at jewelry.
